earth and sjy yoga marrickville cassandra missioI first came to yoga in my early twenties whilst travelling. I knew after my first class that I had stumbled upon a very powerful and potent discipline that left me feeling grounded and clear. On my return to Sydney in 1997 I began to study regularly and in 2003 began a 4.5 year teacher training apprenticeship at the Art of Yoga, Summer Hill. In 2009 after many years of training I was Certified in Anusara Yoga.

I have further refined my practice and teaching skills studying on numerous occasions with the founder of Anusara Yoga, John Friend and many of his senior teachers. I have studied regularly with meditation and philosophy teacher Carlos Pomeda and Yoga Therapist Doug Kellar. I am grateful to all my teachers who have so generously guided me over the past 20 years. My yoga practice has been and is still a constant support through times of physical and emotional challenge including the birth of both my babies and early days of mothering. It is like an old dear friend always encouraging me to look for the good and beauty and focus on what brings connection.

My classes weave precise biomechanical alignment with heart centred philosophy with the intent to offer an experience of freedom and lightness to the body and the heart! My dream of having a beautiful and sacred place in which to practice and teach and a supportive community has become a reality in the manifestation of Earth and Sky and I warmly welcome you.

earth and sjy yoga marrickville Prudence Davies

Prudence first stepped into a yoga studio in 2009 and was instantly drawn in and intrigued by the practice – not only by the physical aspects of yoga but also the philosophy, the meditation practice, the incredible power of the breath, and how engaging the physical body has such a profound effect on the whole being.

Inspired to teach and share the power of yoga, Prudence completed her 200hr teacher training in 2013 at Sukha Mukha Yoga in Bronte, guided by Idit Hefer Tamir. Prudence further refined her teaching with Cassandra Missio – owner and Director of Earth and Sky Yoga Studio & Advanced Anusara™ teacher – completing a one-on -one mentorship in 2015 focused on biomechanical alignment and application of therapeutic techniques. Further studies include yoga therapy training with advanced practitioner Doug Keller and a full certification in pre and postnatal yoga. Ongoing education continues as Prudence works towards her 200hr certification in Anusara™ teacher training.

Prudence is very passionate about helping students find comfort in the physical body to make day-to-day functional movement steady and joyful. Classes are accessible and creative, catering for students of all levels, with a strong emphasis placed on assisting with props and providing support. Students are taught to find space in the body and are given techniques to take yoga off the mat and into daily life.

robyn2 min

Robyn is a dedicated student and teacher of yoga and loves everything about the practice (even when it challenges her!). Robyn was introduced to yoga in her home town of Macclesfield in the North West of England 15 years ago, however it wasn’t until she emigrated to Australia and discovered her first yoga studio in Newtown Sydney that she really fell in love with practice and began to study it more deeply. The practice of yoga has given Robyn the tools to face various challenges in her life (physically, mentally and emotionally), it has opened her up to many wonderful opportunities and it has introduced her to a beautiful community of people that she is so very grateful for. Robyn hopes to inspire others through her teaching so that they can go on to discover the depth of the practice for themselves.

Robyn’s classes are inspired by various styles of yoga, including Jivamukti, Ashtanga and Iyengar. You can expect Robyn to encourage you to connect with your mind, body and breath whilst guiding you through creative sequences with a focus on alignment. Robyn will often share some wisdom from her personal study and experience and will always leave time for meditation practice and savasana.

'Coming from a creative background in theatre performance and exhibition curation, yoga was the practice that united my various paths of self-study.

At the end of December 2017, I completed my 200-hour teacher training at Sukha Mukha Yoga in Bronte, under the guidance of Idit Hefer Tamir and Katie Manitsas. And in July 2018 I completed a six-month mentorship with Cassandra Missio, through which I refined my teaching skills and further developed my understanding of biomechanical alignment.

I believe in the simple and direct, in the value of returning to basics, in lifelong learning. Above all, I believe in accessible and personal classes, and creating a supportive space for exploration.'

KimYoga 5I’m delighted and grateful that Cassandra has given me the opportunity to expand my yoga teaching skills and knowledge through the Earth & Sky mentoring program.

I’ve known about yoga all my life – initially through a local television show called Yoga with Swami Sarasvati - and I still have her little book though the pages are a bit yellowed now. My physical yoga practice began in gyms as a compliment to other fitness classes which I’ve pursued for most of my adult life. Then in 1985 I learned how to meditate . It was a life changing moment and I have meditated almost every day since. I view the practice of meditation as a gift, it is like having access to a little holiday every day. Through attending meditation retreats over a number of years I gained some knowledge of the Yoga Sutras and the founding principles of Ayurveda.  After practicing Bikram Hot Yoga for five years I completed yoga teacher training in December 2016 and since then have continued to expand my skills and knowledge by teaching regular public classes and attending well regarded, accredited yoga teacher training programs.

When I’m not teaching yoga I work full-time as People & Culture Director with  a global environmental non-government organisation. I am blessed to have a gorgeous 27 year old daughter, and an eccentric 10 year old dog. I look forward to getting to know you and assisting you on your yoga journey.

Certificate IV Yoga Teaching 800hrs

yoga profile photoI was first introduced to Yoga when my mother opened up a studio below my childhood home, I was 8 years old and didn’t understand it all that much but it was intriguing and I loved getting a head massage in Savasana. It wasn’t until my last year of high school that I developed a daily practice. Yoga became something I could rely on as a stress-reliever and I always seemed to feel better after a class. I soon started learning more about yogic philosophy and Aryuveda both in the classes I was attending and conversations with my Mum which led me to start my Certificate IV in Yoga teaching (800hrs) at Byron Yoga Centre in 2017. I stayed in Byron Bay teaching for 4 months before moving to Sydney.

My Yoga classes offer options for all levels with a focus on breath and the proper alignment for you own body. I hope to guide you through both a physical and emotional journey where you feel safe and free. You can also expect Pranayama and a guided meditation at the end of my classes and of course a head massage in Savasana if you like!
